JANET'S MUSIC 2014 ANNUAL RECITAL

WINNING TEAM CHALLENGE WAS CHOPIN HOUSE - ROMANTIC PIECES

Judges, Teachers and the Winning house - Chopin

PERFORMANCE WORSKSHOP DAY

The Performance Workshop Day last Sunday was a success with all performing students putting in their effort in practicing their exam pieces and performing their best in front of other students.

We had an enjoyable time with everyone paying full attention during the activity workshop, and there were good comments and suggestions for improvement in performances.

The winner for the most constructive suggestions for improvement in performance was a tie between Ronny and Eliza.

I have decided to give the winning bar of chocolate to Eliza for her courage in participating in the Performance Workshop Day, in spite of her HSC exams which will begin in a few weeks time.

However, I will be rewarding Ronny with a “treat” during this school holidays.

Every participant at the performance workshop were awarded 30 bonus house points and students or house captains who contributed a performance piece for the activity were awarded an extra 15 points.

This performance workshop has given them confidence and short term goals in preparation for their piano exams.

As a result the students that participated in the performance workshop day has been encouraged by the good and stunning performances shown in some students’ performances.  This will also motivate and inspire them to put in more effort in their home practice.

Performance Workshops has always been encouraged by Music Examining Boards, for students to overcome their nerves, have confidence and be prepared for the actual piano exam.

Please join me in congratulating the following students with outstanding (A grade) performances at the workshop.

  • Racheal D          Berceuse, and Danza De La Moza Donosa

  • Jonathan G        Rondo, and Will Ye Gang to the Hielands

  • Ronan G            Everybody’s Blues

  • Hanna J             Strange Things Happen

  • Martin S             Raspberry Rag

Thank you for taking your time to read the above.

I wish to inform you that I have become a registered Assessor for the Skill section of their Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Australia.

Each State and Territory Award Authority licenses 'Operators' to conduct The Duke of Ed Program are commonly known as LO's and are responsible for delivering the Award to Participants. Find out if your school or College or Tertiary Institutions conduct The Duke of Ed Program.

Licenced Operators can be:

  • Schools

  • Colleges

  • Tertiary Institutions

  • Community Organisations

THE DUKE OF ED AWARD:  WHAT IS IT?

The Award is a flexible, interesting and fun-packed program for all young people between the ages of 14 and 25 to participate in a number of activities over a set length of time.

It is entirely voluntary and is structured so the participants can design their own unique program centered around their interests and passions.

There are three levels to The Duke of Ed:  Bronze/Silver/Gold

The Skill section which I am registered on assessing are as follows:

Music

  • Music appreciation (general knowledge, history, terminology)

  • Musical theory

  • Playing an instrument (piano), including learning and practicing

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE AWARD

The International Declaration
The Award concept is one of individual challenge. It presents to young people a balanced, non- competitive program of voluntary activities that encourages personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility to themselves and service to their community.

The Fundamental Principles
• The criteria for gaining an Award is individual improvement through persistence and achievement, taking into account the Participant’s initial capabilities, and without any element of competition between Participants
• Participation is entirely voluntary and the individual Participant has a completely free choice in the selection of the locally available options within the four sections (five for Gold)
• The is no discrimination against participation on grounds of sex, race religion or political affiliation

The Operational Principles
Participants must be between the ages of 14 and 25.

• The basic structure of The Award program consists of the four mandatory sections:  Fitness (Physical Recreation), Skill, Volunteering (Service), and Adventurous Journey

• There are three levels of The Award:  Bronze (for those 14 an over), Silver (for those 15 and over), and Gold (for those 16 and over)

• The minimum period of participation for direct entrants to qualify for an Award is 6 months for Bronze, 12 months for Silver, and 18 months for Gold

• At Gold level Participants must undertake a Residential Project away from home

What You Get Out Of It

Not only do you get to take part in an activity that is truly of interest to you, but it also allows you to develop skills that you may previously thought were out of reach!  Like all Sections of the Duke of Ed, what is chosen should be fun and the goals set should be realistic - feel a real sense of achievement!

The great thing about this Section is that there is so much you can get out of it:

  • It's personal and fun

  • You might surprise yourself and find something new to be passionate about

  • You can do it with your mates, and you might make some new ones along the way

  • You can unleash your talents

  • Boost your confidence and ability

  • Connect with people and make new friends

  • Experience a sense of achievement

  • Make your dreams a reality

  • Looks GREAT on your resume

The Performance Workshop at Janet's Music Studio on Sunday, the 22nd September, 2013 was a success.

The students enjoyed the workshop activity. They were motivated to pay attention during the performances – making suggestions for improvement in the performance activity.

The winner who made the most suggestions for improvement was Ali  and he received a bar of chocolate on Friday, the 27th September.

We had the privilege of Belinda’s attendance at the workshop this year. Belinda’s input at the workshop was much appreciated by all.

The students played well and Certificates were given out for participation.

Students, teachers and some parents joined in the tea party after the workshop.

House Points were awarded for attendance, performance by memory, workshop activity and individual performance results. The performance results will be given to the students in the fourth term.

A special "Thank you" to Tiana, Trinity’s mother for taking care of all the recordings at the performance workshop day.
